Set in the leafy country lanes of Burghclere on the Berkshire Hampshire border, the Portal Hall has a history dating back to 1889 when it was agreed to build a memorial to the late Canon Portal.
The Parish room, as it was known then, was completed in October 1890 on land donated by the Earl of Carnarvon.
The Hall has seen many activities during its time spanning over a century and a quarter, including billiards, reading and a skittle alley and numerous clubs and associations. highly successful Preschool 5 days a week with a Good rating by OFSTED July 2014 meeting place for the organisations like the Women's Institute, a keep fit venue and a place for a game of indoor Short Mat Bowls.The annual local Horticultural Society Flower Shows, Harvest Suppers, Entertainment evenings, Wedding receptions, Celebrations and Private Parties are just some of the many public and private functions held at the Hall.
The Main Hall is bright and spacious and can comfortably seat 160 people as an audience, 120 for a sit down meal, or 100 if a dance area also is required.
